Questa settimana siamo arrivati in Polonia, dalle parti di Shepherd's Bush.
Abituato a una clientela selezionata, quali gli impiegati della vicina BBC, questo sabato a pranzo il Tatra (24 Goldhawk Road, London W12 8DH) ha accolto la nostra allegra e affamata compagnia.
Avevamo una guida d’eccellenza: il nostro coinquilino polacco Tomasz, che, udite udite, ha preso un giorno di ferie proprio per stare con noi. Siamo poi stati particolarmente contenti che Pia e Saskia ci abbiano accompagnato per la terza volta.
Di tutti i paesi visitati finora nel #FoodWorldTour, il cibo polacco e’ stato senza dubbio il migliore.
Siamo partiti dalle zuppe: il Barszcz di Salvatore (colorata zuppe alle rape) non era affatto male, ma il Zurek (con uova e salsicce) di Tomasz era decisamente più appetitoso!
Come non assaggiare i buonissimi Pierogi, una sorta di ravioli fritti o bolliti, con funghi e crauti nella versione più tipica, e in quella “Ruskie” (russa), ripieni di formaggio e accompagnati da bacon e cipolle.
Poi i pancake di patate: con manzo e salsicce (illeggibilmente Zbójnicki) e con salmone e panna acida. Semplici ma deliziosi.
Ma ancora una volta, l’astuto Tomasz ha fatto la scelta migliore: il suo Gołąbki, carne di maiale macinata e riso avvolti in foglie di cavolo, e’ stato decretato all’unanimità il piatto migliore della tavolata.
Non potevamo rinunciare al dessert: cheesecake, sbriciolata alle mele e rabarbaro, e soprattutto Racuchy, fragranti frittelle di mele con gelato alla vaniglia e salsa alle fragole.
Per concludere in bellezza, un buon bicchierino di vodka fatta in casa alla fragola e alla ciliegia. Anche Sara, che di solito non gradisce i superalcolici, questa volta ha apprezzato...
Dopo pranzo, per rimanere in tema polacco, passeggiata in periferia di Varsavia, nella “nostra" Ealing Broadway.
Ci sembra già di essere in viaggio da una vita, ma il nostro giro del mondo e’ appena cominciato! Se volete salire a bordo, resta ancora qualche biglietto! ;)
La prossima settimana, per la gioia di Salvatore, faremo tappa nella piccola ma orgogliosa Lituania.

This week we arrived to Poland, near Shepherds’ Bush.
Used to a select clientele, like the employees of the BBC offices nearby, this Saturday the Tatra restaurant (24 Goldhawk Road, London W12 8DH) welcomed our cheerful and hungry company.
We had an excellent guide: our Polish flatmate Tomasz, who, hear ye hear ye, took a day off from work just to stay with us. And then we've been very happy to have Pia and Saskia with us for the third time.
Of all the countries we visited till now with our #FoodWorldTour, the Polish food has definitely been the best one.
We started with soups: Salvatore’s Barszcz (colourful beetroot soup) wasn’t bad at all, but Tomasz’s Zurek (with eggs and sausages) was definitely more tempting!
How couldn’t we taste the excellent Pierogis, fried or boiled dumplings, in their more typical version with mushrooms and sauerkrauts, and in the “Ruskie” (Russian) one, filled with cheese and topped with bacon and onions.
Then potato pancakes: with beef and sausages (unreadably Zbójnicki) and with salmon and sour cream. Simple but delicious.
But once again, the cunning Tomasz made the best choice: his Gołąbki, minced pork and rice wrapped in cabbages leaves, was unanimously proclaimed the best dish of the table.
Obviously we couldn’t say no to desserts: cheesecake, apple and rhubarb crumble and, last but not least, Racuchy, fragrant apple fritters with vanilla ice cream and strawberry sauce.
To end in style, a good shot of homemade vodka with strawberries and cherries. Even Sara, usually not a fan of spirits, this time enjoyed it...
After lunch, to stick with the Polish topic, stroll in the outskirts of Warsaw, in “our” Ealing Broadway.
It feels like we’ve been traveling forever, but our world tour has just begun! If you want to come on board, there are a few tickets left! ;)
Next week, to Salvatore’s delight, we will stop by the little but proud country of Lithuania.
